People First of Canada defines self-advocacy as "knowing your rights and speaking for yourself to get what you need or want". Self-advocate groups are places where people can get better at speaking up for themselves.
At Community Living Oakville, we are on a journey to better listen to and support self-advocates. The Self-Advocate Committee consists of people we support who are committed to growing and developing their advocacy skills in their personal lives, within Community Living Oakville and within the broader community context.
Community Living Oakville recognizes that responding to the feedback and helpful critiques of the Self-Advocate group are key to obtaining our vision of becoming the service provider of choice in the Oakville community.
The Self-Advocate Committee may be contacted at (905) 844-0146 ext. 402
